Straight out the packaging, this is an impressive coat.
The materials feel bombproof and it looks amazing with subtle detailing and practical inclusions, such as the snow skirt and internal balaclava, immediately screaming quality.

-1 Deg. outside so it was put to use immediately. So incredibly warm and comfortable!
I’m instantly convinced that this may be the best coat I’ve ever owned!
Can’t wait for the temps to really drop to take this for a full spin but I know already that this parka is unstoppable!
Always ahead of the game, Thrudark!

  2. Chris Phull

    Absolute top notch!

The rip stop material my skin is used to, is the rough, nasty stuff that was issued kit, this feels super comfortable in comparison. Amazing how it can be this soft and durable.

Not only are The fleece lined pockets down low, they are near the chest too, proving people like me the comfort of having my hands high up in the coat but still keeping them warm.

Plenty of pockets to store an array of items/kit with the expected zips and buttons to keep them from falling out

Fantastic thermal regen, I reside in London so don’t get the harshest weather but walking the dog in 3 degrees wearing only a T-shirt underneath had me toasted.

This is a lifetime jacket that feels like it will handle whatever you throw at it

Received my sf expedition parka and can’t be any happier with the quality of it.
The coat is the first one I’ve owned with enough pockets for your gear & fits perfect.
It feels so comfortable and doesn’t restrict your movement like other brands I’ve owned in the past & the hood adjusts perfectly for a comfy fit .
Hats off to the guys @ Thrudark for an amazing quality parka which is perfect thanks Rich.

  4. Phil

As soon as you inspect this parka you can see it’s a superb piece of kit. The design and material quality are as good as it gets and I can’t imagine there’s a better product on the market. I’ve not been out in really cold weather yet but can’t imagine any conditions being a problem. Ok it’s expensive but if you want something of this quality that looks amazing you won’t be disappointed. The only downside is I can’t stop looking at all the other gear they make and it could bankrupt me !!

  5. Mike W

Really impressive jacket – plenty of thoughtful features, clearly well thought through, and more than enough insulation and reinforcement in the right places. A looser fit than the Breach jacket of the same size which I prefer (XXL for 6’ 4” 46 chest 40 waist 104kg). The only design feature I didn’t quite understand/ agree was the lower pockets only had one press stud to close it at the edge near the main zip, meaning (I suspect) that snow or rain might enter (or kit could fall out) via the other slightly less secure side of the pocket? That apart highly recommended, and looking forward to testing it properly in Canada this winter. 👍🏻👍🏻

  6. TK

I’ve owned and used a few Parkas in my time (in both Scandinavian Artic and Northern Canada) and this is without doubt the top of the pile. Detail and workmanship are incredible and it’s warm, very warm, but feels light and comfortable.I’ll be off to Northern Sweden soon and will report back but I have zero doubt this will perform. Looks great too. Another top notch bits of kit from Thrudark.

    Dear Sirs,

Late last night, a somewhat hypothermic and definitely flustered DHL delivery person appeared from the icy cold and darkness to hand me an enormous box sealed with ThruDark tape.

I’ve been buying ThruDark almost since day one and have therefore become accustomed to the incredibly high quality and reliability of every item, not to mention the outstanding customer service. Despite having reached a point where I can’t imagine life without my ThruDark wardrobe, investing in the SF Expedition Parka still took a bit of consideration before pulling the trigger. It’s not that I can’t justify such a coat – Toronto has days with wind chills pushing -40C every winter not to mention hefty snowfalls – but did I really need yet another one when, on particularly meteorologically despicable days I can always layer TD and survive with ease?

I have had or been loaned a lot of great kit and outdoor wear. For three years I worked in the film and television industry here which meant excruciatingly long days spent outside in -20s, -30s and even -40s. I then worked for an adventure travel company for ten years which saw me travelling all over the world seeking new areas to explore or to operate in, including to the Antarctic. This has most recently been followed by ten years as the senior editor for Canada’s biggest adventure travel magazine which has had me heading off on assignment everywhere from Jordan and the Australian Outback, to Baffin Island high in Canada’s Arctic. Consequently, I am no stranger to good gear, but you consistently outdo even yourselves!

Although I haven’t worn the parka ‘in anger’ yet, it is just a phenomenal item. Usually, I can think of something extra that would have been handy, but this one just hits every nail and then more. I’ve always been a big fan of thumb loops on the correct item of clothing, and these are perfect. I love the snow skirt and the waist draw cord. The balaclava is superb, the pockets can be life-saving and the hood could house a family of hibernating wolverines in snug-comfort. And then there’s the simple quality of the fabric and the construction. The attention to detail and the quality of the piece is simply outstanding. I will likely never need another heavy parka again!

  8. Marty

The SF Expedition parka is a Beast! An exceptional piece of kit. Quality from top to bottom. Only had the chance to wear it few times since it arrived the other week, as it’s so bloody Warm. It was -9 the one day here in Canada and wearing this I was toasty warm. Not only that but it looks the Mutts Nutts. The built in balaclava is a nice touch. You will not go cold in this. Love it.

  9. Richard Harvey

Thought has gone into the details on this one. Smart idea using Dyneema to maintain shape down the front baffle and keep wind out – saves having down in the baffle tube which has got stuck in every parka I’ve ever owned. You won’t find yourself in a storm at 6000m with this thing with the zip stuck. It actually fits around the face, pockets are a good size, Velcro is in the right places to be useful and not shred your skin. Only tested it down to -12C so far and it did the job well. Just enough down to work for extended multi-week expeds, but anything much colder than this might have you asking for more down. Compared to other parkas I’ve used in the Himalayas, this will be well up to the job as a base camp parka. Materials, build, and looks are bomber. If it had a hint more down, and some way to get the weight down it’d be Nirvana, but it’s pretty close already.
