OK I’ve spent a year in this jacket. I’ve taken it on multiple summits and full days in some pretty terrible weather, through winter its my go to it gets abused and yet its has never let me down. Everything you want from a heavyweight shell, keeps the distractions of the weather to a minimum so you can get on with the task at hand. Stop fucking around and buy one you won’t regret it.

  2. Josh Kind

The Raid is unbeatable in the heavyweight waterproof jacket category. On a recent trip to Pen Y Fan in South Wales we were met with horrendous amounts of weather. The Raid never once let a drop of water through.

I’ve had other branded waterproof jackets before but after a while they normally give in, not this one. I was completely bone dry underneath and more importantly warm.

Even a simple hike can turn into something very nasty and this was one of those. Many company’s claim their gear is better than the rest but few go to the lengths these boys do.

ThruDark test their kit to the extreme, pushing the materials used to the brink of destruction. They never release or rush a product until they are 100% happy with it.

The Raid is worth every single penny in my eyes, with the amount of deign, testing and most importantly the ThruDark promise that it won’t let you down.

If your looking for a waterproof jacket that beats all others and will safely return you back from your adventure warm and dry then you’ve found it!

After all you’re only as good as your kit so why not make it the best.

Have owned a lot of high end adventure brands over the years and this is by far the best shell I have owned. Quite a pretty penny here in the USA with our worthless exchange and all…living in Buffalo NY, our winters are riddled with snow, wind and brutal cold. I’ve had this jacket in 35mph winds, downpours, freezing rain and snow. It has performed flawless on all accounts. Just ensure you have proper insulation. Currently selling off my other other adventure brands. They are not needed.

  4. willpim711

Amazing Jacket, delivers on so many levels, I’m very happy with it and is perfect for winter weather. The fit is great and its really comfortable.
The small details make it unique and different from other jackets.
The quality of the material and design is unparalleled, The Thru tech from the R&D ops and knowledge of the Thrudark team really shows.
Well worth the money and great customer services

  5. leigh Ibberson

I debated buying this jacket for a long time, as for me I thought spending that sort of money on a jacket I’d be too afraid t use it for what it’s designed for, but now I have won’t be looking back.

When the jacket arrived I realised the quality of the jacket eliminated all my fears of not wanting to wear it, so I set off with my weighted pack over the sas fan dance route on the brecons in the early hours of the morning in blistering winds and rain… the elements around me were insignificant the Raid jacket kept the conditions out and I could solely focus on the task ahead!!

When you don’t have to think about the conditions around you, you know your wearing the right kit!

  6. Scott

Like others I waited a long time pondering buying one of these jackets due to the price but like many others I am not disappointed. Having owned most other high end brands there is usually a small snag with each. Not with this one the quality of materials and workmanship are second to none. Attention to detail likewise such as quality of cuffs and fasteners and general fit which is the most comfortable jacket I’ve ever owned. No hesitation in future purchases one of many items I’m now proud to own and also excellent personal customer service. Thanks much appreciated

  7. Ruud Kok

I received my jacket yesterday and i am stunned about the quality, it looks and feels very strong.
Over the years i have owned various well known outdoor brands but they didn’t look as well made as this jacket.
It fits like a glove, very comfortable and everything is in the right place.
Yes it is slightly pricy but so are other brands and they lack in quality compared to the Thrudark.
Can’t wait to get out on my next “adventure”

Also the customer service and delivery is second to none, really pleased with it.
It won’t be the last item I’m buying with Thrudark, that’s for sure!!

  8. Malcolm

Where better to put the jacket to test than the Isle of Skye?

It handled everything thrown at it, strong winds, heavy, persistant rain and snow on the summits.

Kept me dry and warm and it looks badass!

  9. Matthew Meyler

Well well well, I’m on my 4th TD jacket now, all different and get used often. The RAID though! wow! This thing is simply unbeatable! My new (Well known brand) first Goretex jacket I bought for Xmas let me down massively a few weeks ago as I was climbing pen-y-fan. Last weekend I faced much worse conditions up penYfan and on the Sunday a local hike up Pendle Hill, the conditions where worse and this jacket just laughed it’s arse of at the rain and wind! It’s ridiculous the amount of research these guys put in and I simply won’t buy any other brand now. I get they are more expensive and out of reach for some, but if you can stretch, MY GOD ITS WORTH IT!

  10. Chris

Stop pissing around and bye it. I have had this jacket for 6 months now, I live in the Lake District. I have just Spent the day on the fells in storm Denis, this jacket is on point, it hasn’t breached. It’s not often these days that you get what you pay for. Believe the hype this jacket delivers. And yes it looks cool as ****.

  11. Glenn stone

This jacket is amazing have just spent 4 days winter mountain training up in the Cairngorms through storm Ciara the conditions where brutal wind speeds of 80mph -20 temperatures above 800 meters with driving snow and on lower levels driving rain.

This jacket did not miss a beat even after 10 hours on the mountain I was so warm and dry and insulation and never once did I think it’s just a mater of time before the water gets in like on other jackets I’ve had.

You will never own another outdoor jacket after you have used sf raid jacket it’s an astonishing bit of kit ??

  12. Ryan

An incredible jacket, the quality is sublime and fits like a glove. Its strong and robust and will keep you very dry.
If this is the standard of quality from Thrudark I will be buying plenty more from your range.

  13. Luke Robinson

Great bit of kit, worth every penny. A recent trip to the Alps and the Raid jacket coped perfectly in all winter weather conditions mother nature threw at us.

The design detail is outstanding and the over sized hood worked at treat in some nasty summit days. Excellent and ample storage options too! Best jacket I have ever brought hands down.

  14. Glenn Littlewood

Quality and attention to detail, as usual, is just outstanding. The best heavy duty shell jacket I’ve ever owned…bye bye Arcteryx LEAF Alpha jacket.

  15. Barnaby Schooling

Amazing company, and amazing jacket. I’ve taken this all over from Australian rainforest to the alps and uk mountains. Been in some torrential downpours and its kept me dry as a bone, whilst being breathable so you dont get soaked in sweat. The adjustable hood is really good when wearing a climbing hat and the material of the jacket is super tough. Slid down rocks relentless times and the jacket still looks new. The customer service with thru dark is also second to none as well as the delivery service fast and reliable. Extremely strong company, 100% recommend them.

  16. David Pickersgill

Got the Raid last week and wore it yesterday in some of the worst weather we’ve had. It was like being insulated from the elements. The fit is perfect and you move so easily in it. I love it

  17. Adrian Chubb

Had the Raid Jacket for coming up a year now and it’s done everything it said it’s going to do on the Overview and Technical sections on the website.

Since arriving it’s served me well in all weather conditions in the Scottish Mountains, including getting submerged in a river in spate; remaining dry underneath.

Honestly say it’s a top class bit of kit and wholeheartedly recommend purchasing one.

  18. Rinica Warner

Well after ordering my 1st item a few weeks ago which was the benne hat in green it was time to look at one the jackets and the raid looked like one the top jackets that would get you ready for the adventures ahead so after the what size will I need I decided to go for the green raid in size XL.
Made the order on Friday took advantage of the price dropping which I was so happy and lucky to get my size the order was placed and just like before kept right up to date on delivery and delivery date the service is top class and they go beyond in keeping the customer happy.
Now for the jacket service again so rapid and fast it arrived on Tuesday and again blown away how much this jacket looks so amazing the feel the finish the little touches on the pull string on the hood and just the the sheer quality of the finish 10-10 with one more point added to the level of service to the jacket to me so fast.
If you are looking for jacket that will get you to end of your adventure and get ready for the next one and the next one then this jacket is for for sizing I would look at going up a size if you going to and need to wear a base layer XL fits like a large and it looks very nice on 4 big pockets and 2 inside plenty of storage and hood is amazing I can only say a massive thank to the company and team for the level of service you give to your customer even down to post card and bag the jacket comes in I am now looking at red raid and going to be looking forward to getting back to hills when we are allowed and I will leave another feed back when I have tested this top class jacket if you looking at price and thinking 🤔 a bit expensive think again you are getting a lot for your money and hands down you will not be disappointed that I will say definitely a top brand and exclusive you will not look back once you have this jacket on top class my next purchase will be red raid in red just have to save now lol but once you to go Thrudark you will not go back to any other brand or jacket that I can honestly say just don’t leave it to late you might miss out on a very top service and next level jacket 😀😀😀😀😀

“The jackets are way too expensive.”

That’s probably the most common complaint online I’ve seen about ThruDark.

If you’re thinking the same thing, here’s my advice: get yourself a second job or piss off to North Face.

The clothing line is worth every penny. This is the sixth piece of ThurDark gear I’ve purchased and it’s bloody faultless. My new Raid Jacket has been amazing, with heaps of layer protection against the cold elements. I went for a hike this morning in 5C weather and didn’t feel anything. All I had under my jacket was my ThruDark shirt and I still felt warm. I’m already looking at the Breach Jacket for my next ThruDark purchase.

  20. Craig Mann.

Just wanted to say thanks guys, I received my SF Raid in green a couple of weeks ago and I’ve finally had the chance to try it in the wind and rain. It’s fantastic and I can’t wait to try it out in some serious weather later in the year. Over the years I have used many different fabric types, but none can match the Raid. If you are in the market for a serious hardshell jacket don’t waste your time looking at the massive choice available just get one of these.
Fantastic product from a fantastic company.

This is my third outer garment from the guys at THRUDARK and I have to say it is a great piece of kit. I opted for the Raven Grey, a great alternative to the Black. I have been issued lots of kit over the years, but nothing comes close to the this. The zippers and taped seams are designed to last, the fit is comfortable allowing for freedom of movement, far better than some of the high priced American brands. I am planning a return visit to Finland this winter, this will be part of my kit and hopefully some of the new base layers that are due in for winter.
If you are looking for great kit designed and tested by the people who know, then you wont go far wrong with this… Don’t just take my word for it, look at what others have to say…Keep up the good work guys…..Always Stepping Forward…

I have been a member of the dead bird society for years…. (Arc’teryx LEAF)

Their kit was far superior to anyone else’s on the market for years…..

    Until Now!!

This jacket is a heavy weight waterproof and the materials used on the coat look to be far harder wearing and robust than any other jackets of similar cost on the market at the moment. The taped seams and stitching on the coat are absolutely perfect and the build quality of the jacket is 100%.

I also own an Arc’teryx Alpha SV and the cut of the SF Raid jacket is similar, you get full range of movement and the jacket doesn’t ride up when you have your arms in the air at full stretch, which is needed when scrambling around in the lake district / Snowdonia / Scotland or indeed anywhere else on the planet!

The chest pockets are great and are standard on most other brand jackets of this nature, Thrudark has added the hip pockets as well which are great and highlights Thrudark’s attention to detail.

I’m a bit of a kit geek, and when looking to replace my Alpha SV have researched, looked at and sampled every other jacket on the market of similar cost and design.

I can confidently state that I have found this jacket to be the best with regards quality, features and fit.

The jacket is expensive, but the bitterness of poor quality stays with you long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten. So if you want a top quality waterproof jacket that will last many years then buy or save for this one.

    You will not be disappointed!

I first discovered ThruDark after I seen the clothing on SASWDW and immediately checked it out. I liked everything that was on offer but the price was high but within good reason to which I can fully justify. I first bought the Recce Beanie as it was relatively cheap in comparison to other things and because it looked really good. When it arrived I was not disappointed and is the best wooly hat/beanie I’ve ever had. It’s lightweight, warm and tries quick after being in the rain which is needed up here in Scotland.

I had my eye on the Raid Jacket since I first found the brand and said that I would get it one day. Over lockdown I was doing a lot more outdoor activities and finally decided that I needed a high quality water proof jacket that also looked good, so I went ahead and purchased it and don’t regret it at all. The quality is incredible and has everything you need from a jacket, I kept finding small things with it as the days went on. It’s my go to jacket for walking the dog or going out adventuring and easy to carry around in case of a rain shower. Yes the price tag is expensive but you’re getting what you pay for and that’s an amazing product. No complaints from me whatsoever!

  24. Andrew

Just received the jacket. You can see straight out of the bag it is a quality product, with quality components. The riptop is excellent with very small rip weaving meaning that approx only 3-4mm will rip at anyone time – this was the main reason for getting the product.

I have the Skirmish jacket which really is just a shell but this jacket has more weight and you could probably get away with wearing a very light weight mid layer, yet still feel warm.

    Well done lads, top product.

  25. Richard Tiley

Like many others here, I have tried any number of ‘big name’ waterproof jackets, all of which have come up wanting. So, it was with some trepidation that I ordered the Thrudark iteration.

Many ‘heavyweight’ waterproofs are stiff and ‘boardy’ but not the SF Raid. Yes, the fabric feels really tough but it is supple too. Add to that an incredibly good cut, allowing for all sorts of movement and hindering none, and you have an extraordinary jacket. The sizing, too, is brilliant, allowing for layers underneath but never giving the feeling of being swamped by acres of surplus fabric

In use, all of its qualities shine through. On a recent backpacking trip to Skye, it took the Raid instead of a lightweight jacket and I was very glad I did. Caught in ferocious winds on the Trotternish Ridge, the jacket kept me both warm and dry; the following day, the performance was repeated in the pouring rain. I can hardly wait to give it an outing in the snows and blizzards so often encountered in the Cairngorms!

The only, tiny niggle I have is with the hood brim. A wire stiffener would stop the brim from flapping into my face when not wearing a cap underneath. It’s a small detail in an otherwise perfect jacket. In fact, I have now added a Zodiac to my collection as I reckon that the two will be ideal for any of the weather that the U.K. can serve up.

The combination of Thrudark and Schoeller is a match made in heaven for anyone who ventures into the outdoors. I, for one, am both delighted and impressed. Thank you.

  26. Dave Mee

So when you’re out for a long time in really severe weather the Raid shines… The Zodiac is great for on / off weather where it’s showers more than driving rain, but when it comes to the heavy stuff, this jacket feels rock solid.

The fabric looks and feels special… it breathes really well… far better than I though a heavyweight jacket would. Massively confident in its protection factor and durability.

It just feels remarkably well made and seriously comfortable to wear. Very impressed yet again.
